Nevzat Sayın, one of the Turkey’s prominent contemporary architects, has been contributing to the field of contemporary design, architectural thought, and practice since 1986 through his work at NSMH. He is a public figure known for his architectural texts, interviews, exhibitions, and the television programs he has produced.

Nevzat Sayın will be the first speaker of the conference series on ‘Contemporary Religious Architecture in the Mediterranean World’ organised jointly by the Dominican Study Institute-Istanbul (Dost-I) and the Department of Sociology of Istanbul Medeniyet University, with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Erhan Berat Fındıklı as project manager and contributions from Depo Pergamon, Istituto Italiano di Cultura – Istanbul, Instituto Cervantes – Istanbul.

Malatya Mosque: designed by Nevzat Sayın in 2012 as a modern interpretation of the multi-columns mosques seen among the Anatolian Seljuks from the 12th century onwards this mosque was not realized despite receiving necessary approvals. This religious building, which stands out for its design quality in contemporary architectural history, represents a multifaceted experience that requires rethinking employer-employee relations, habitus, and judgments of taste.
