Isaac of Nineveh and His Context
Conference by Fr. Paolo Pugliese, OFM Cap.
Isaac of Nineveh was born in Arabia at the beginning of the seventh century. He was ordained bishop of the East Syriac Church in Nineveh, but soon resigned from his office to withdraw into a monastery. He is the author of spiritual writings which still nourish our faith today and are often cited by contemporary theologians who support the final salvation of all humanity.
Paolo Pugliese will introduce us to this extraordinary figure and to his surrounding environment, particularly Eastern Christianity of the seventh and eighth centuries, making reference to his writings and to those of related authors.
Paolo Pugliese is a Capuchin friar. He served the Church in Turkey, first in Ephesus and then in Antioch. He currently lives in Istanbul, where he works as parish priest of Yeşilköy, episcopal vicar of the Diocese of Istanbul, and head of the Capuchin delegation in Turkey. In 2019 he obtained his doctorate from the Augustinian Patristic Institute in Rome with a dissertation on Joseph Hazzaya, an eighth-century Syriac mystical author.
The conference will be in Turkish, free of charge, and open to everyone.
