Architect Volkan Taşkın one of the designers of the Büyükada Nizam Mosque will be the fifth speaker at the conference series title “Contemporary Religious Architecture in the Mediterranean World”. The event is jointly organized by the (Dost-I) Dominican Study Institute-Istanbul and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Erhan Berat Fındıklı who is project manager from Istanbul Medeniyet University, department of sociology, and also in collaboration with Depo Pergamon, Istituto Italiano di Cultura-Istanbul and Instituto Cervantes de Estambul.

Volkan Taşkın graduated from Istanbul Technical University in 2004 and was among the presenters of the programme Açık Mimarlık, on Açık Radyo between 2012-2014. He founded Degostudio in 2014 and LOTstudio in 2015. He wrote his master’s thesis titled “Global City and Istanbul” in 2016. Since 2023, he has been continuing his design and project work at Studio Pines Arc. An architecture office he founded with Fadime Kul.

Taşkın views contemporary design not merely as a pursuit of innovation but as reflective process in dialogue with topography and urban texture and traces of this approach are clearly visible in the project of the Büyükada Nizam Mosque.
